Post-procedure Care
Minimally invasive hip surgery may be performed on an outpatient basis or you may have to be hospitalized for a day or two. Following the surgery, you will be transferred to the recovery room before being discharged to home or to the surgical floor.
Care taken after surgery is key for a complete recovery. You will be given certain instructions on post-operative care before you are discharged. Common post op instructions include:
- Avoid the combined movement of bending your hip and turning your foot inwards
- Keep a pillow between your legs while sleeping for 6 weeks
- Never cross your legs and bend your hips past a right angle (90°)
- Avoid sitting on low chairs
- Avoid bending down to pick up things; instead use a grabber device.
- Use an elevated toilet seat
- Limit bearing weight on your hip by walking with crutches or a walker
Rehabilitation is an important stage in the healing process. A physical therapist will assign specific exercises to improve your range of motion and strengthen your muscles.
